After the Second World War and the German occupation of Poland, the concentration and extermination camps on Polish territory, the Holocaust and the changing of the borders which resulted in driving away millions of Poles and Germans – the German-Polish relations came to a massive low.
Due to the post-war work of various initiatives in West and East Germany and Poland the people slowly came closer again which set a process in motion. This process of reconciliation is portrayed in the open air exhibition “Courage and Reconciliation” which has been created by the Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe and the Museum of Polish History. Waldemar Czachur and Kazimierz Wóycicki are the curators of this exhibition.
In November 2014 it has been officially opened by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz to mark the 25th anniversary of the Mass of Reconciliation.
The exhibition is open for visitors daily.
